Frankfort’s favorite Irish pub – a place to gather, relax and enjoy great drinks, live music and good company.
Located in the historic former M.A. Selbert’s jewelry store at 330 St. Clair Street in downtown Frankfort, Mortimer Bibb’s Public House opened in November 2020. Co-owners Karl Lawrence and Kevin Newton modeled the pub on traditional Irish public houses, complete with a 28-foot oak bar, copper-plated bar top, and a chandelier made from Jameson whiskey bottles.
The name honors 19th-century Kentucky senator George Mortimer Bibb, and the pub occupies the old Selbert building that once housed a jewelry store. Guests enjoy a warm, cozy atmosphere with vintage décor, hardwood floors and flags of America, Kentucky and Ireland.
Mortimer Bibb’s is the only bar in downtown Frankfort serving Guinness on tap. The menu features simple yet satisfying fare – pretzels with beer cheese, scones, soups, salads and sandwiches – plus seasonal specials like Shepherd’s Pie, Guinness stew and the Ploughman’s plate. The pub also stocks a variety of draft beers, Irish whiskeys, bourbons and cocktails.
The atmosphere is charming, the owners are friendly, and the pretzels and soups are excellent – it feels like sitting by a fire in a real Irish pub.
Ten beers on tap; the Guinness is creamy and the blueberry-lavender lemonade cocktail is a treat. The ambience and downtown location are perfect.
Feels authentically Irish – a relaxing spot to meet a friend for dinner and drinks. Homemade soups and scones are highlights.
